Life is precious

Posted on June 16, 2020November 2, 2020 by Kimaya Kolhe

I truly believe that life is precious. Isn’t it? And that’s the reason, recently, I wrote about Ikigai, which is a Japanese funda for long and purposeful life.

And then I was hit with the news about suicide os Sushant Singh Rajput , at the age of (just) 34. Damn ! sushant singh rajput

I think we all are deeply shocked and grieved by the untimely demise of Sushant. I don’t know why, but it feels like a personal loss. No doubt, there was definitely something behind his wonderful smile. But I would definitely not call him coward. As I do not know what he was actually going through.

I know him as a self made actor. He was quite a fighter but when depression hits, it is really, really difficult. This incident has made me reflect, yet again, about the various mental health issues many of us have to go through in our daily lives.

Our mind has that extraordinary power, to let us do anything that it decides. It doesn’t matter, if the brain and body disagrees.

So we have to be very careful while nurturing any negative thought that unknowingly, randomly, comes to the mind.

Life is precious : Don’t waste it

And nowadays, we are bombarded with all the corona related news : number of patients, number of deaths, red zones and what not? With financial insecurities, many of us are struggling with depression. It’s making a deep impact on our minds. This pandemic has completely changed our life in a different way.

But let me tell you, how to handle this.

With each death or near death experience, get reminded of the concept : My Life is precious.

Don’t let the death of those, closed to you, hold you back. Let each death remind you of how invaluable life is. Each death should be a reminder not to waste your life in negativity.

We only have selected days on this planet and then we’re gone. Whenever you endure a death in life, hit the reset button and wake the hell up from the lie that you’ll be young forever. None of us are going to live forever, so all we have is right now. And we have to take it as a responsibility, as an individual, to take life seriously.

Of course, there are things we have absolutely no control over. But  then there are things which we can try to minimize. Just like depression can be treated, suicide can be prevented too.

After Sushant’s demise, again mental health awareness is getting discussed everywhere. Sharing your pain to loved ones is the core message.

I will go further and say, make yourself strong enough to handle it alone if you have no one to share. Because , I know that , those who are depressed, don’t talk much. They prefer to withdraw from the world.

Depressions , mental traumas can not be seen as physical diseases. But they are real. And before they enter in your life, have some fencing to your mind.

I really really urge you to be as strong as a mountain. There can be situations, either in professional or relationships, where people will insult you, there can be situations where people will torture you, there can be situations where people will dominate you, there can be situations where people will prove you wrong, they will make fun of you,  but learn to face anything. Mind it. Anything. Life is tough but also beautiful.

Don’t allow others to make you helpless and miserable with their words and opinions. In fact, make yourself so tough that even if life brings you down, you can get up on your own.

stand alone in life

I have two points to mention here to strengthen your inner soul:

Failures are part of life:

I really wonder how some people believe that bad things will never happen to them. And then they can not handle failures, either it’s in a job or in relationships.

One thing is very clear that, everyone, literally, everyone will have a bad or worst phase in life one day. That period will definitely arrive in life soon or later. But, once you accept that it’s trivial, it becomes easy to face it.

Let me give you an example. If there’s a storm, you can do nothing but to wait under a roof for that worst nature’s action to end. And once it’s gone, you can see the same nature with a peaceful smile. Because there can not be such disasters or darkness forever. Sun shines after every storm. Right?

That’s the case with our lives too. There’s no single profession, where there’s no dirty politics. Toxic people will always be there. We have to  deal with them.  Failures are part of life. But, it should not damage our inner peace. Make it a habit to fight. And, in the worst case scenario, we would survive strongly.

failures are part of life

We even have to teach this to our kids. Instead of letting them win , we have to give them some taste of defeat. Let them cry, let them try more, let them understand failures. Because one day, they will have to face this cruel life.

Life is beautiful

Another point in the beauty of life is, our soul’s happiness. Find out what makes you happy.

I really love reading books and recently I am in love with writing too. So I take it as my Ikigai; as in, even a 100 years of life would not be enough for me, (if at all possible ) to read as many books as those are available in this  world.

When I look at some brilliant work in writing, by some great writers, I feel that I have to do so much of hard work to reach that level.

And all these thoughts keep me engaged, other than my work for office or home.

So, other than routine work, check out your favorite thing (any hobby), and check it with some masters who have done some incredible work in it.  Then, you will see the gap. And now, your life has the purpose to feel the gap, do it more and more and more.

And you will not find any time to get depressed. There’s so much to do in life. Right?

Work hard, make your life more beautiful, don’t leave this planet before watching it’s beauty.

Conclusion :

Nobody can bring you peace but yourself.

Don’t forget, every second of your Life is precious !

Life is so so precious. I learned this the hard way last year when my husband died, I was 34 with a 3 year old, 2 year old and 5 month old. Wow are things ever different now, including how I look at my time in this world. You absolutely never know when it is over and nothing is guaranteed like we seem to naively believe.
