Walk into the unknown

Posted on January 22, 2020October 22, 2020 by Kimaya Kolhe

Would you like to know your future? If your answer is yes, please think again. Because not knowing is the greatest life motivator. If you walk into the unknown, you will always be challenged and it will bring the spirit of newness in your life.  Right?

Before graduation :

Yesterday, when I was talking to my daughter Durva about her next year in school, as she will be entering into 5th standard, she was so excited to go to secondary. She was talking endlessly about all her excitement, her plans with her friends and so many other things.

I was looking at the shine in her eyes about the excitement for her next year. And I realized that before graduation, every year brought a change, new measures, new classrooms, new teachers, new challenges, new curriculum and so many new opportunities in life. And every year we walked into the unknown with equal excitement.

But after graduation, we always search for the term ‘settled’, we work hard for it, to not to do any new struggle for education. And we become happy doing the same thing over and over again.

stepping into the unknown

Till graduation, the path of our life was so brilliant, growing step by step and moving to the next and higher level of the game.

When my daughter left, I thought, if one year is enough for a kid to learn and get to the next level. Then it should be enough period for the grown ups like me to get by the new level of responsibility or trying new change in life.

Beyond your Comfort Zone

Let me tell you my experience. I am in love with programming since my college days. I practiced very hard in programming C language, and reached to a level, where I would answer any random question on C , even while I was sleeping. It‘s in my blood now.

Few years back, my husband Deepak asked me to learn Android App development which is done in different that is Java programming language.

I was not ready to learn any other thing than C. He tried so hard to convince me that if your programming concepts are clear, you can learn anything in software.

Basically I was afraid to get into the new and unknown technology. As it was far beyond my comfort zone. After a long discussion, I finally made the decision to learn Android.

I tell you, I had never  imagined that one day, I would develop an Android game for kids on my own. Seriously!

“How can you know what you’re capable of if you don’t embrace the unknown?”

― Esmeralda Santiago, Conquistadora

We always create a fence of comfort zone in our mind. And hesitate to go beyond that, because of the fear of the unknown. Isn’t it?

walking into the unknown

Walk into the unknown

Walk into the unknown is about going beyond your comfort zone and who knows the unknown might reward you with something you hadn’t even visualized!

Trust me! The unknown is a field of possibilities. An adventure that waits for all of us.  It’s an oasis a start to something new; we are essentially being reborn again during the process of the “unknown“.

I have needed to grasp the concept that the unknown is not a terrible place; it’s our destiny we create each day by being true to ourselves.

And what I learnt is, If you enter into some new field, and failed while practicing; it’s okay. If your practice is not taking you to the success or perfection, don’t forget that it is showing you the progression each day, towards the success.

You will be on the way turning the tables to make some record.

And if we think on the other side, that is failure, we have to remember that the worst-case scenario may not be so bad. And we would survive. Right?

It’s like traveling through the tunnels. We know that there’s light at the other end. Similarly, every new field or unknown path is a tunnel. We have to travel thought this with a courage that there’s always a hope of light at the end.

If you want to change the job, try for the new designation, or start something new, a new business or change the field, it’s always possible. Because there’s always a way out of every difficulty, it’s either you have not found it or you have not created it.

And if you have stuck somewhere in life, you can restart your life anytime, anywhere. Right ?

SO, What kind of unknowns will you be walking in? Make the decision and have faith in GOD.

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly.

So enjoy, endure, survive each moment as it comes to you in its proper sequence — a surprise.

Conclusion :

When you truly want something in life sometimes you just have to go for it, step into the unknown.

This week take three baby steps to walk into the unknown territory and don’t look back.

Loved this! My husband and I quit our jobs to travel for 4 months. We planned to travel for a year, but we got burnt out, happy we did because there’s nowhere i’d rather be than home during this virus situation.

I agree that the unknown is more motivating than knowing what lies ahead. I’m such a planner and resistant to change so the unknown is a little more stressful for me. I also like how you mention stepping out of your comfort zone. We truly grow as people and reap great rewards when we push our boundaries.

Thanks Rachael. I have really gone through such unknown paths and the destinations where I reached were really beyond my imaginations. SO I personally believe in stepping into unknown things now.
