As promised to write more about books, I have come up with another book review of one fantastic thriller, 21 Dares by JC Gatlin.
Truth or dare game with friends
We all are locked in home since so many months and we are missing all those fun moments together with friends. All that craziness, parties have gone missing. But this book, will take you to such a funny tour that you will forget this lock down. Seriously !
Have you ever played that game of ‘truth or dare’ in your life? The question will be asked and you’ll have to give the true answers and if you wish to skip the question you will be given a task to perform which would be dangerous or need courage to finish.
The questions for truth could be, ‘what is your deepest fear? Who is your crush? What is the naughtiest thing you have done in public’ and so on…
So basically truth or dare game is fun but more of an embarrassment.
Right?
21 Dares By JC Gatlin
So, back to the book. The similar game is the core part of this book and it really make the impact as the story progresses.
The lead character Abbie, had a big tragedy in her childhood. Now she’s a college girl at the age of 20. And she’s afraid that someone is stalking her but no one believes.
As her twenty-first birthday approaches, all her friends have a great plan for her birthday party. The game of total 21 dares, (which has to be done by her one by one); all fun and games… after all, you turn twenty-one only once, right?
Initial part of the book is little slow, I mean you wait for something to happen, or some interesting things which you expect from thrillers. But, once the party starts, you’re completely into it.
Enjoying all the dares, Abbie performs. Some dares are so interesting that if you put yourself into it, you will surely get embarrassed.
Like, once you reach to the given location, the next message comes on Abbie’s mobile to perform the next dare. So one example is, once they all reach the destination 5, which is a library, the dare she has to perform is :
“Dare #5 Stand up on a table and ask everyone 2 sing HAPPY BDAY 2U”
I mean, come on, that’s too much to do. Right ?
But that’s the fun when all friends are together. Everyone is there to help her fishing her task. So they had a plan “With the librarian out of the room, we can do it…”
Isn’t that funny ?
And, there are many such funny and interesting dares in the book. (I wish there were more like it.)
Anyways, everything is fun until the things begin to take a weird turn, none of which was planned by Abby’s friends; the dares begins coming from different mobile phones, NOT the one initially planned.
I loved the way author has narrated it. Because it takes you to Abbies’ birthday party virtually.
Abbie and her friends are about to celebrate one birthday party they won’t forget….. And you too.
Rating : 4.5/5
